From Austin to the San Francisco Bay Area to Los Angeles and back to Austin Michael Hurd, also known
as CinnaMan, has delighted friends, co-workers, and catering clients with his dazzling desserts. He
has spent 30 years refining his self-taught baking skills, and his cheesecakes have become legendary.
However, his cakes, cookies/bars, and other dessert creations are equally delicious.
I've always considered myself lucky to have grown up a big sports fan and then to have had a career as a sportswriter.
Yet, as passionate as I am about sports and writing, I could never escape the lure of the kitchen -- from many days
watching and helping my mother cook and bake. So, for the last three decades I've slowly elevated baking above
bylines and found that my true passion is in the kitchen, where I've perfected the art of putting together cheesecakes.
I don't remember the first cheesecake I made, but I sure do remember the smiles that always came from the folks who
tasted my desserts and the gratifying and repeated reviews of, "best cheesecake I've ever eaten!" One such comment
came from a restaurant owner in the San Francisco Bay Area who tasted the praline pecan cheesecake I made for a
Super Bowl party and offered me a job as her dessert chef.
So, Michael Hurd, sportswriter, is now Michael Hurd, "CinnaMan," and I look forward to bringing more smiles to dessert
lovers with my made-to-order cheesecakes and other sweet treats, all prepared with the freshest ingredients.
